The Low risk zone consists primarily of travel to industrialized countries in temperate climates.  Itineraries would include travel through most of North America, Europe, northern Asia, as well as New Zealand and Australia.

High risk zones are those countries or regions where both serious diseases are endemic and where the health care systems are underdeveloped.  Examples of high-risk zones include sub-Saharan Africa, portions of Central and South America as well as portions of Southeast Asia.

Hepatitis A and B

High rates of disease in much of the developing world.  Every traveler should be up to date

Diphtheria/Pertussis and Tetanus

Common worldwide.  Every traveler should be up to date

Measles, Mumps, Rubella

Dangerous diseases controlled through vaccination.  Every travel should be up to date

Polio

Still endemic in parts of the world.  Every traveler should be up to date

Typhoid

Endemic in the developing world, particularly southeast Asia.  Recommended for certain destinations during certain times of year

Yellow Fever

Dangerous disease seen in sub-Saharan Africa as well as South America.  Many African countries require documentation of vaccination.  Vaccine, however, is contraindicated in certain patients

Japanese Encephalitis

Dangerous disease endemic in Asia during certain times of year

Meningococcus

Vaccination strongly recommended for travel in equatorial Africa

Rabies

Deadly disease.  Still commonly seen in animals in much of the developing world.  Recommended for certain itineraries
